DANIEL LIPPINCOTT
Daniel Lippincott splits his time between the San Francisco Bay Area and the Costa Brava region of Spain. He has been exploring the visual arts for over 15 years starting with his love for photography. Although Daniel never was formally trained in photography he slowly developed a sense of what intrigued him and attracted his eye. His purely photographic work was never shown in exhibitions but it was to be the foundation for what was to come.
His birth as a visual artist really started in 2013 when he casually signed up for a digital printmaking class at Berkeley City College. The intention was simply to print a few photos in a larger format, but soon he began the process of collaging his photographic work to make more complex and compelling images than what any single photograph can provide. Daniel quickly found that color is his muse and this more than anything else guides his esthetic process. The ongoing exploration of line, shape, and textures keep Daniel engaged with his artistic and personal evolution in the world of visual self-expression.
In terms of subject matter, this has varied greatly over the years. Daniel has produced a solid body of work that is purely abstract. He has also stumbled into a number of compositions that have a sense of portraiture, although not in the classic sense. Pop art and culture also inform his esthetic at times. And an extended trip through Asia inspired a number of pieces with many more to come. Every new work begins free of any preconception of what it will be. By approaching the creative process totally unconfined, Daniel ideally creates works of art that avoid pretense or constriction to any particular style or movement.
In addition to the fine arts, Daniel has been working as a graphic and web designer for many years, catering primarily to the music industry of which he has been an active member of as a live musician, producer, record label owner and DJ since his arrival to the Bay Area in 1998.
